When dining out, nothing is more comforting to me than an authentic neighborhood restaurant. The kind of place where you feel just as welcome when dining alone as you do with a table full of family or friends. A place with an inviting, well-stocked bar where meeting new friends or running in to old ones is almost unavoidable. Copper Crown is such a place. Tucked away in a small unassuming strip center off Tunnel Road in East Asheville, the restaurant features both relaxed indoor seating and a sizable outdoor patio where well-behaved dogs are welcome. Opened in 2015 by husband and wife team, Adam and Kate who relocated to Asheville from New Orleans about 15 years ago, this place is a hands-on labor of love. Chances are Kate will greet you from the hostess station as you arrive and walk you to your table while her husband Adam will prepare your dinner. Adam is a talented chef who specializes in cuisines from the American South, Louisiana and Italy. His menus reflect on these regions and others as he uses mostly local ingredients from top suppliers such as 10-Mile Farms produce, HNG Farms Meats, Springer Farms chicken, and Sunburst Farms trout. He even sources rare gourmet products like Steen’s cane syrup from Abbeville Louisiana. Copper Crown offerings include an extensive “Small Plate” selection as appetizers and side dishes as well as “Larger Plates” or entre-sized dishes. For the casual diner the menu also includes a nice selection of burgers as well as salads and homemade desserts. The menu also includes a few vegan and vegetarian selections. In addition to a deep bench of well-priced wines and craft beers, Copper Crown has one of the most extensive selections of distilled spirits in town curated by a very capable bartender.
